Fenix (Ace Hotel)
The Fenix building, a 6,300 m² property located in Glyfada along the Athens Riviera, has achieved LEED v4 for Building Design & Construction – Hospitality. This milestone was reached following the complete renovation and repositioning of the historic “Fenix” hotel, which now operates under the Ace Hotel brand.
The renovation was carried out in alignment with the LEED rating system, integrating sustainability across core areas such as energy efficiency, water use reduction, indoor environmental quality, sustainable materials, and site strategies. The project reflects the increasing application of LEED in Greece’s hospitality sector, especially for the adaptive reuse of existing buildings.
The transformation of the Fenix into a certified sustainable hospitality asset required a coordinated effort between the project’s development and design teams to ensure that both operational performance and environmental impact targets were met. The project shows how architectural heritage can be preserved while upgrading performance to international sustainability standards.
With hospitality being one of the most dynamic sectors in the Greek economy, this certification reflects the sector’s capacity to adopt ESG-aligned practices and contribute to urban resilience and climate goals. The Ace Hotel in Glyfada is now among the few LEED-certified hospitality properties in Greece, reinforcing the role of responsible renovation in advancing sustainability along the Athens Riviera.
