Climate change challenges for the real-estate industry and associated finance for green buildings were addressed by Charalampos Giannikopoulos, MD DCarbon at the Building Show 2 which took place on October 3rd, 2023 at Megaron – The Athens Concert Hall and organized by Ktirio Editions.

Significant opportunities are emerging, along with unique challenges that investors need to consider, since new transparency and sustainability requirements as well as responsibilities for all stakeholders are introduced. The Green Deal, EU Taxonomy as well as the RRF requirements have been changing the rationale of real-estate development. Accordingly, and in the framework of decarbonization all decisions for real estate development must be taken on a life-cycle approach rather based on the upfront cost.

From now on, real-estate will suffer from its impacts on the world a lot more than the values of the associated companies may be influenced due to the constantly changing societal and environmental conditions of our world.
